Since my last entry, we’ve been pleasantly busy with a variety of range days all over North CA.  The following will be a quick tour of ‘what’s hot’.

Colt® (Colt Defense LLC) is a company not known for unveiling new products every year to keep up with the current trends and styles.  We rely on them to keep making the hands-down most trusted 5.56 direct-gas MIL-SPEC carbines available.  Therefore, when they do come up with something new, expect it to be an eye-opener, as indeed the LE901 is.  The LE901 (CM901 in its semi-auto version) is a multi-caliber system not just for the upper receiver, but for the lower as well.  That means an agency only has to go through the ATFE paperwork one time to have a mission flexible rifle capable of being a sub 1 MOA  20” 7.62 semi auto sniper rifle on Monday,  then conveniently transforming into a 11 ½” 5.56 select-fire carbine on Tuesday. 

Now that is pretty darn slick.

We didn’t get a chance to shoot for accuracy at our recent demo at the California Highway Patrol weapons unit, but we did get to shoot the LE901 on select-fire in 7.62 which was a very invigorating experience indeed.  Feeding from Magpul 20LR magazines the crew zipped through several hundred rounds on full auto so quickly that the rifle got downright hot to the touch, but never faltered. 

Thanks to the excellent ergonomics and ambidextrous controls, transition drills will be familiar to anyone with time on an M4 carbine.  This means your door-kickers, snipers and perimeter designated marksmen can all train on the very same platform.

I don’t want to talk numbers on our blog, but let’s just say the agency price on these will be a lot lower than one would imagine.  More good news:  they are shipping now.  Looking for a demo?  Call or email any time.

Accuracy International Ltd

Accuracy International Ltd  is a company that hardly needs an introduction for those familiar with precision long range sniper systems.  Battle tested in more than 70 countries, these fine weapons just keep working in conditions that routinely make other bolt guns choke and die. 

AI also holds the prestigious stigma of being the rifle used by British special forces to set the new world record for a called and confirmed kill at 2.47 kilometers (8,120’). 

I’m often pressed with the question:  aren’t they expensive?  Well, not really.  Let me explain:

A modern ‘dedicated defensive marksman’ (we used to call them snipers) greatly benefits from a true tactical rifle, not a glorified sporting arm with some upgrades.   If you start with a sporting rifle and add up the cost of an adjustable tactical stock (and custom gunsmithing to have it bedded) then a high quality steel detachable magazine conversion system (and custom gunsmithing to inlet the stock for it) and a decent and reliable trigger (also fitted by gunsmith).  Threading of the muzzle for suppressor or other device (once again to the gunsmith) you may also want a more reliable extractor fitted which requires machining of the bolt itself.  I could go on but I think you get the picture.  A laundry-list of vendors and ‘custom’ gunsmithing which adds up to a potential liability and a lot of money.  In many cases much more than going with the right rifle to start with. 

AI rifles are available in 5.56, .308,  300WM and .338 Lapua magnum as well as a special ‘covert’ 16” version with integral suppressor.

Bear in mind we also provide the excellent AICS free-float chassis/detachable magazine system for your existing Rem700  rifles if you want to update them and are not yet ready for new rifles.  It’s an elegantly simple drop-in which requires no bedding or gunsmithing at all to provide a free floating stock (optionally side-folding) detachable magazine conversion (5 and 10 round mags),  adjustable pull,  adjustable comb,   and is compatible with the Badger IMAN device for mounting a PVS24 or similar night vision device.  The colored ‘skins’ are also easily replaced so you can match changes of environment as desired.
